TeenyB Happy Hour: Spicy Jalapeño Margarita Recipe

Is it happy hour yet?

Slip into your favorite summer bikini and let the spicy cocktail mixing begin! One of our favorite cocktail recipes to make is this Spicy Jalapeño Margarita. It brings the heat with a little sweetness, and oh so refreshing! We love enjoying this after soaking up some sun and working in the yard.

A unique twist on the classic margarita just feels right. The ultimate happy hour? Include a side of guacamole and your favorite crispy chip. You can thank us later.

Jalapeno Margarita Recipe Ingredients:

  • Tequila: Bartender’s choice, we love a silver or reposado for this drink.
  • Jalapeno: Fresh is best, be sure to include the seeds and the veins if you want this extra caliente.
  • Orange Liqueur: Triple Sec works, we love using Grand Marnier as our secret margarita recipe ingredient.
  • Lime Juice: Fresh is best, squeeze the limes just before stirring in to your drink.
  • Sugar: Agave works well, we used our fresh made simple syrup for this. You could sub Orange Juice too.
  • Ice: Serve chilled over ice and you are good to go!
  • *Cilantro: For added garnish and flavor profile, top with some fresh cilantro leaves
  • *Sparkling or Soda Water: Want to dial down the heat or potency? Top it off with a splash of sparkling water. Bartender’s choice. We love Perrier, La Croix, or Topo Chico.

Spicy Margarita Recipe Tips and Tricks:

Pro Tip: Muddle some of the Jalapeño slices into the tequila to infuse before making the cocktail. 15-20 min should do the trick.

  • Salt the rim, if you choose
  • If it tastes too strong, use the sparkling water to adjust or let the ice melt.
  • Taste and tweak, if you want spicier (we love it spicy) add more jalapeño or seeds. If you want sweeter add a touch more sweetener. If you want more tart, Lime juice is always great to keep adding.

Now grab a snack, guacamole and chips are a no brainer to us, and kick back to relax.

Cheers!

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup good tequila (we love reposado style)
  • ¼ to ½ jalapeño pepper, plus extra slices for garnish (keeps seeds to bring the heat)
  • ¼ cup Grand Marnier
  • ½ cup fresh lime juice, plus lime slices for garnish
  • ¼ cup simple syrup or fresh squeezed orange juice
  • a few splashes of sparkling water
  • handful of ice

Instructions:

  1. Pour the tequila into a mixing glass or small pitcher. Add the sliced jalapeño, ¼ to ½ of it, depending on how spicy you want your margaritas. Set aside at room temperature for 15 minutes (the longer you let the jalapeños infuse, the spicier it will be). If you don’t have the extra time or just can’t wait, muddle the jalapeño slices then proceed with the rest of your magical drink making.
  2. Make the margaritas by mixing together the jalapeño-infused tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice and ¼ cup simple syrup. Taste it. If you’d like a spicier margarita, add more jalapeño and let it sit a little longer. Pour into glasses and add lime slices, jalapeños, and cilantro for garnish. For a lighter margarita, fill the glasses ½ full and top with sparkling water.
