Tips For Stress Reduction at Home

Life is busy, chaotic, and beautiful all at once. Whether you're juggling a small business, parenting, remote work, or just trying to keep up with everything, staying grounded and positive can feel like a full-time job. While we're no longer navigating lockdowns, the hustle and pressure of daily life is still very real.
These days, instead of social distancing, we're focused on staying centered, connected, and calm no matter what comes our way. From toddler meltdowns before coffee to emails piling up faster than laundry, we understand how overwhelming it can be. We don’t have all the answers, but we do have a few daily habits that help us feel more balanced, recharged, and ready to take on whatever the day brings.
Here are some of our favorite ways to de-stress and stay sunny at home, or wherever life takes you.
Mindful Mediation
Between notifications, to-do lists, and everyday noise, quiet moments are rare. That’s why mindful meditation continues to be our go-to. It doesn’t require anything fancy. Sometimes it’s just a few deep breaths taken between tasks, or a quick check-in during a stressful moment.
By focusing on the breath and bringing your awareness to the present, you can create small pockets of peace throughout your day. Whether you're sitting quietly or just pausing in the middle of a busy moment, mindful breathing helps calm the nervous system and shift your mindset. It brings us back to center and helps us show up as kinder, more present people.
Sunshine + Fresh Air
There’s nothing quite like sunlight and fresh air to boost your mood. We’ve always been sunshine chasers, and it shows in everything we do. One of the easiest ways to lift your spirits is simply by stepping outside or letting natural light into your space.
Vitamin D, often called the sunshine vitamin, supports immunity, mood, and energy. Even if you work indoors, you can take a moment to step out for fresh air, sit near a sunny window, or enjoy your lunch outdoors. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, try incorporating Vitamin D-rich foods like salmon or eggs into your meals, or consider a supplement.
We love cooking our favorite bourbon-glazed salmon with lemon asparagus risotto and then taking a stroll afterward. The combination of nourishing food and a little sunshine is a mood booster every time. Just don’t forget your sunscreen.
Reading
When we need a reset, we reach for a good book. Reading is one of the simplest and most effective ways to slow down, shift gears, and escape into a different world for a while.
It’s more than just entertainment. Studies have shown that reading can reduce stress, lower heart rate, and relax your muscles in just a few minutes. Whether you're into fiction, self-growth, or even poetry, reading helps your mind focus and your emotions settle.
Set aside a little time each day, even ten minutes before bed. It’s a great way to wind down, tap into your imagination, and reflect on how you’re feeling. Plus, finishing a book brings a satisfying sense of accomplishment.
Water + Greenery
When life feels a little too much, nature helps us find balance again. Whether it's stepping into the garden, splashing around with the kids, or soaking in a warm bath, being close to water and greenery helps us feel grounded and calm.
Gardening is one of our favorite de-stress activities. It combines movement, creativity, and focus all in one. You don’t need a big backyard to enjoy the benefits either. Start with a potted plant, a few herbs on your windowsill, or even a flower arrangement in your kitchen. Just having something green in your space can brighten your mood.
Science shows that being around plants can reduce anxiety, support mental clarity, and even improve air quality. For extra calm, try a warm bath with candles and soft music. Let it be your moment to relax, recharge, and let go of the day’s stress.
Getting Active
We’ll be honest, we’re not working out every day, but we try to move regularly. Whether it’s Pilates, yoga, or a few minutes of stretching while dinner cooks, every little bit helps. Movement doesn’t have to be intense. The goal is consistency and keeping your body in motion. Check out our 15 Minute Workout from Home.
Some days, our workout is chasing toddlers through the backyard. Other days, it’s a quiet yoga flow while everyone’s still asleep. It could be a walk around the block or squats in the garden. What matters is that we’re doing something that lifts our mood and supports our mental well-being.
The more we move, the better we feel, both physically and emotionally. Choose something that fits your lifestyle and feels fun, and stick with it as best you can.
